SpammingSquare

Back in December I was looking for a replacement for the camera I was parted from a month earlier in Vietnam. One site, ShoppingSquare seemed to be offering a good price on a Canon 860IS, but I wasn’t sure if it was covered by a Canon Australia warranty – I’ve heard that Canon Australia will [...]

Blackle holes?

I’ve been reading about black holes recently, you know, those things that Hawking eats for breakfast, but Blackle is something else: a rebadged Google search, painted black “to save energy”, because the white background of the usual Google search pages uses too much power.
What the?.. Sounds like the kind of pseudo-scientific slight of hand or [...]

The spring is sprung

More Flash fun, this time with balls on springs chained together. The example code in the book I’m reading suggested using trigonometric functions to calculate the ’spring target’, but I thought I could do it with similar triangles.
Imagine two items (A and B) connected by a spring of a certain relaxed length (not stretched or [...]

Visuals / VJ-ing

For a long time I’ve been interested in graphics and visuals. Since 2006 I’ve been supplying visuals for gigs, parties, and home entertainment, drawing on material I’d produced (both consciously and subconsciously) before even thinking I would be a ‘VJ’ – taking photos and little videos thinking they “might be interesting as visuals” – and [...]

Pixel tube

I’ve been poking around the plugins pen and found one that makes it a snap to include a Youtube video in a post: Smart Youtube. Here is a quick test.

Filmclip: Ana (hisboyelroy’s smooth dub) | Mar 07 by spxl

All that is needed for the embedded video (which should be just above the video [...]

Space invasion

I’ve been reading a couple of books on Actionscript (Flash) programming, but not managing to get much hands-on time. Here is a tiny sample of a ’spaceship’ simulation. Many spaceships, even. Try pressing the up, left and right arrow keys! :o)
Link: spaceship.swf
NB: You might need to click on the animation before the keypresses register.
